Living Lands Collective
Eat. Native. Plants.
What if restoration ecology and agriculture merged…
…to support humanity & biodiversity simultaneously?
What is restoration agroecology?
The restoration of degraded land is one of the great challenges of our time. Humanity faces an existential crisis from biodiversity collapse, in large part due to land use change driven by agriculture. And while there are no shortage of people trying to minimize the harm of intensive agriculture, we seek to take regeneration a step further: to full ecological restoration and even enhancement.
This is hardly a novel concept. We are guided by the long success of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in providing for human subsistence while creating some of the most biodiverse habitats on Earth.
But we live in a moment of unique and unprecedented challenges, and so Traditional Ecological Knowledge must be adapted to our time. To this end, the Living Lands Collective is dedicated to exploring and promoting new ways of restoring degraded land to ecological and agricultural functionality.
The key to the success of this process is entering into a reciprocal relationship with native plants. Only species which have co-evolved in a given place can provide the myriad ecological services necessary to sustain the web of life. And only a reciprocal relationship that sustains biodiversity and humanity both can allow us all to flourish.
So: we propose a new native plant agriculture that creates maximum resiliency at a moment of terrifying precarity. Realizing that vision is our purpose.
